Neil Young verbannt Google und Facebook von seiner Website

Am Dienstag (11. August) flatterte Nutzern des Neil-Young-Archives eine überraschende E-Mail ins Postfach, in der Neil Young erklärte, dass ab sofort Google und Facebook auf seiner Website vollständig abgeschaltet würden.

In dem ausführlichen Statement deutete der Singer-Songwriter auch an, dass es ihn etwa 20.000 US-Dollar kosten würde, die Internet-Riesen zu vertreiben.

Neil Young: Facebook und Google stiften Chaos

„Facebook lässt wissentlich Unwahrheiten und Lügen in seinen politischen Anzeigen auf seiner Plattform kreisen, während Bots Zwietracht unter den Nutzern säen“, heißt es unter anderem in der Erklärung. „Wir können nicht dulden, dass in unserem Land Differenzen und Chaos durch politische Falschinformationen befördert werden.“

Young drückte es noch deutlicher aus: „Facebook versaut uns unsere Wahl.“

Google sammelt ähnlich wie Facebook mittels verschiedener Programme (unter anderem mit Analytics, einem Programm, das die Nutzerzahlen erfasst, sowie Suchmaschinen-Applikationen) Daten und steht vor allem auch in Europa unter Beobachtung von Datenschützern.

Obwohl die Corona-Pandemie die Musikwelt von einem Tag auf den anderen in die Krise gestoßen hat und viele Musiker zur Untätigkeit verdammt, ist es für Young wohl eines der produktivsten Jahre in seiner Karriere. Mit Online-Sessions meldete er sich regelmäßig aus der Selbstisolation auf seiner Farm. Die „Black Lives Matter“-Bewegung unterstützte er mit einer neuen Fassung von „Southern Man“. Zahlreiche Alben aus dem Archiv erscheinen zudem dieses Jahr, darunter das einst aus privaten Gründen vor Jahrzehnten zurückgehaltene „Homegrown“.

NYA DAYS AWAY FROM DROPPING SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM

We have been working on this project for a couple of months. Trying to disengage from the corrupt social platform is a costly and time-consuming process for NYA. Our cost will be almost $20,000 to disengage, while treating our subscribers with respect, making it as easy as possible for them to continue with us after Facebook.

Facebook knowingly allows untruths and lies in its political ads to circulate on the platform, while bots sow discord among users. Sowing dissent and chaos in our country via political disinformation is something we can not condone. Simply put, Facebook is screwing with our election.

The money we are spending to get out of this mess is designed to make it as easy as possible for our valued Facebook users to log in simply and securely to NYA without the social media platform involved in any way. It is in keeping with what we have been maintaining re: the irresponsible social media platform for the past two years.
