So schnell war bislang wirklich keiner: In Rekordzeit (zwei Stunden!)schickte David-Ivar Herman Düne seine kommentierten Fave Raves
1/Bob Dylan „John Wesley Harding“
I didn’t have much choice with this record. It is one of the only records that my father owned. So the first time I put a needle on a slice, was with „John Wesley Harding“. Every song on the record has been played more than a million times in my life, I know every scratch of the record, and still love it. The songs on it are pure gold, as usual, but maybe even sharper and more focused than on some other albums, It’s just too good to be true…
The Nashville cats for the session are just incredible, Kenneth Buttrey is my favorite drummer…
2/The Rolling Stones „Black and Blue“
I love Black And Blue, It’s Gigantic, Memory Motel, Hand Of Fate and everything. Charlie is on Fire and the Writing is so much fun (When writing there is on this)
3/Chuck Berry „One Dozen Berrys“
A glimpse into Perfection, The level is too high, right from the start, sharp as a knife, it’s a deadly weapon. Chuck Berry’s writing is, and will always be, the most beautiful way to write songs, if you ask me, it’s raining hooks and rhymes in there, the voice is killer, and the guitar, man the guitar, I can’t even imagine what it was to hear it at the time…
4/The Dixie Cups „Chapel Of Love“
Probably one of the records I’ve listened to the most in my life. It’s just magic, again, an alchemy of writing and performance. There’s absolutely nothing not right about the Dixie Cups. Brill Building at its best, Carole King and Ellie Greenwhich are my heroes.
5/Bob Dylan „New Morning“
Well, my father used to sing me the songs off that album, and it was sitting on my bedroom shelf when I was growing up. Again, after Billions of listens, it is still my favorite record of all times, Little pop hits, recorded in Nashville, Only the best…
6/The Beatles „Rubber Soul“
It is the first record I have ever owned. I mean, that wasn’t my father’s. I know it by heart, I know each percussion by heart, every breath, every guitar lick. I can’t live without Rubber Soul. The Four of them are at their best on it, and George Martin taught me what Stereo is with it.
7/The Velvet Underground „The Velvet Underground“
The day I heard this album, I got it from a friend (on tape) in high-school, is the day I knew I was going to be in a band, and the feeling has never left me. Everytime I hear this album, I renew my will to keep playing music for ever. When such beauty comes to my ears, it just makes me want to play more. Lou Reed is a Master, and I feel very inspired by the many paths and trails he has decided to follow along the way…
8/Leonard Cohen „New Skin For The Old Ceremony“
This album, again, has been with me for ever, there’s nothing like this. When someone’s poetry is so strong that they convince people around them that it could go mainstream, and hire horns and musicians of all sorts, I think it’s wonderful. The beauty of the Word is the Queen here, And Cohen is his king… The arrangements are Genius and I borrow from them a lot (Cf the female backing vocals)
9/Pavement „Crooked Rain“
I remember hearing „Stop Breathing“ live, before the album came out, and think: „Wow, Pavement is one of them now“. It’s great to see classics being born in front of you, a bit like when The Strokes released „Is This It?“. I think „Range Life“ is my Ideal Song, I love it with all my heart. It inspired so many good things too, including songs by David Berman, like „Suffering Juke Box“. I love Pavement and Malkmus, they mean a lot to me…
10/The Beatles „The White Album“
Again, my best friend Ome bought it for me around my Bar-Mitzvah, at the time I didn’t have many records, and have listened to it every day for many years. I used to like John’s songs better on it, and now I like them all, Paul is incredible, George too. And, Ringo’s first song as a writer, DON’T PASS ME BY, is a masterpiece. I love The White Album
