AC/DC: Malcolm Young ist tot
Der ehemalige AC/DC-Gitarrist Malcolm Young ist nach langer Krankheit verstorben. Sein Bruder Angus nimmt berührend Abschied.
Der AC/DC-Mitbegründer Malcolm Young ist tot. Das teilte die Band am Freitag auf ihrer Webseite mit. Young wurde 64 Jahre alt.
In einem Statement von Angus Young heißt es: „Mit enormen Willen und Bereitschaft waren Malcolm und Angus die treibenden Kräfte hinter AC/DC. Er war stolz, stand zu seinem Wort. Mir als Bruder fällt es schwer, in Worte zu fassen, was er mir bedeutet hat. Sein Erbe wird ewig bestehen.“
Das Statement von AC/DC im Wortlaut:
„Today it is with deep heartfelt sadness that AC/DC has to announce the passing of Malcolm Young.
Malcolm, along with Angus, was the founder and creator of AC/DC.
With enormous dedication and commitment he was the driving force behind the band.
As a guitarist, songwriter and visionary he was a perfectionist and a unique man.
He always stuck to his guns and did and said exactly what he wanted.
He took great pride in all that he endeavored.
His loyalty to the fans was unsurpassed.
As his brother it is hard to express in words what he has meant to me during my life, the bond we had was unique and very special.
He leaves behind an enormous legacy that will live on forever.
Malcolm, job well done.“
Malcolm Young – lange Krankheit
Zur Zeit des vorletzten AC/DC-Albums „Black Ice“ von 2008 litt Malcolm Young an Lungenkrebs.
Nach Absolvierung der 20-monatigen Tour wurde der damalige 56-Jährige operiert. Im Anschluss wurde dann auch noch ein Herzleiden bei Young diagnostiziert.
Die Familie von Malcolm Young hatte am 25. September 2014 bestätigt, dass er aus gesundheitlichen Gründen aus der Band ausstieg. „Malcolm leidet an Demenz und seine Familie bedankt sich für den Respekt aller gegenüber unserer Privatsphäre“, hieß es in dem Statement.
